We changed the way we provide multi-factor authentication last year. We have swapped the text message code method to a new, improved system called Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP). This might sound technical, but it’s simply a secure code that you generate yourself via a free app on your smartphone or computer every time you sign in.

NEW to Multi-factor authentication (MFA)? If you have not yet set up MFA on your GovernorHub account, read our guide on how to start from scratch.

Follow these steps to move from SMS codes and set up TOTP on your GovernorHub account:

  1. First things first, you need to make sure you have an authenticator app or in-browser tool installed to generate a 6 digit passcode when you login.

You may already have an authenticator installed on your device or browser already that you use for other applications (if so you can move straight to step 2).

If you don't then you can download a free authenticator either from the App / Play store or in-browser. We can recommend Authy & Google Authenticator (Android / iOS) or Microsoft Authenticator

2. After signing in to GovernorHub as normal with your password and SMS code, you will see the following message pop up:

2. Click 'Setup TOTP' to continue - you will then see this setup screen:

3. You are now ready to follow the steps described in our Setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA) article.

If you have any issues at all when setting this up, please contact support@governorhub.com where we will be happy to help you!
