We all lead busy lives and keeping up with posts on GovernorHub can be difficult (especially for governors needing to log into school emails or those that don't work on a computer all day). Enable push notifications on your mobile, tablet or desktop to get instant sight of your board's activity on the noticeboard.

PLEASE NOTE: This process will activate notifications for ALL posts from ALL boards you are a member of. If you are a member of multiple boards, and feel this may be distracting rather than helpful, you may prefer to use our purpose built features for 'power' users instead:-

Enabling notifications from within GovernorHub

Before you start! The new 'bell icon' that you will find at the top of any GovernorHub page will enable notifications for the device you are viewing it on (i.e. if you click it on your computer, it will only set up notifications for your computer). To set up notifications on a mobile or tablet device you must do this from the device itself.

Please choose instructions from the drop down menu below for the device you want to enable notifications on.

Apple iPhone and iPad

If you haven't already, follow the instructions to install GovernorHub on your Home Screen - please make sure you use Safari to do this.

If you have already added GovernorHub to your home screen via Chrome we're afraid that you will need to delete the link as Chrome does not support notifications for Apple devices (just hold your finger down on it and click delete Bookmark). Then install GovernorHub to your Home Screen via Safari instead

Once GovernorHub is on your home screen, log in as normal, click on the Bell icon at the top of the page; then click Enable now followed by Allow.

Android phone and tablet

Coming soon!

Desktop computer (Windows or Mac)

Log in to GovernorHub as you normally do, click on the Bell icon at the top of the page; then click Enable now followed by Allow.

PLEASE NOTE: the bell icon also includes a mechanism for installing GovernorHub as an app to your computer - YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO THIS for notification set up. See our article on installing GovernorHub as an app on your desktop for more information. You can come back at any time and do this should you feel you want to. For the purpose of notifications just ignore it.

Once the above had been followed for your device, notifications will be activated every time someone posts to a noticeboard you are a member of. To show you have completed this step, the bell icon will now turn blue.

Configuring (and removing) notifications

Apple iPhone and iPad

To configure your preferences including turning them off .... go to the mobile device and click on 'settings'; then choose notifications and finally GovernorHub. This will open your GovernorHub notifications settings area; here you can switch them off and on and decide how you want them to appear/group by app etc.

Desktop Computer (Windows or Mac)

To turn notifications off, go to the browser version of GovernorHub and click on the app icon on the left hand side of the address bar

This will being up a window in which you need to toggle the notifications button into the off position. A confirmation window will appear to let you know notifications have been disabled (just click the x) and the Bell icon will show this too.

PLEASE NOTE: unlike apps you download from the app store etc. GovernorHub's is not able to display a 'red dot badge'. We are hoping to bring this functionality to you in the future.

Setting your email preferences

The instructions above are for setting up and removing notifications provided by your mobile device. If you want to change the level of correspondence you get from GovernorHub in general please see our article "Manage how many emails we send you". To receive notifications your settings here should be on 'High'.

What is the 'app' mentioned in the bell icon area?

This app installs GovernorHub as a more 'app-like' experience to your computer desktop. It's a more integrated experience than the regular browser website as it removes the browser's frame and address bar. You can install this from the bell icon at any time. Find out more in our article, Installing GovernorHub as an app.
