What's the aim?
Governors are time starved and often overwhelmed by the amount of training and advice there is on offer to them.
Designed to remove the administrative burden of manually sending out suggestions and requirements in the hope that board members will self-serve, you (or any admin on your board/within your Trust admin team) can now assign specific training courses to particular people, ensuring compliance and filling knowledge gaps across your school or trust.

What can I assign and to whom?
Training from both GovernorHub’s library of eLearning courses and scheduled training from your governor support services (if you have one), can all be assigned to one, some or all of your colleagues in one go from the new Assignments tab in the board's Governing Board area
Please note - the Assignments Tab will only appear to admins of the board (non admins cannot assign training).

How to I assign training?
From the Assignments tab click on 'assign training' and follow the 4 step instructions (you can move back and forth using the arrows so don't worry if you want to go back and check)

How will anyone know they have assignments?
Anyone you assign some training to will be notified by email as soon as you assign it to them (and don’t worry - if you change your mind and delete a mistake we’ll let them know too).

On logging into GovernorHub, assignments will also show on the news page - just above upcoming meetings - helping governors find what really matters first.

Assignments can also be viewed from their training record area too which has been helpfully split into ‘assignments', 'registered/in progress' and 'completed' training tabs for ease.

How can I track completion of assignments?
To support you in knowing what's happening and who might need some more encouragement - all assignments are displayed clearly in the Assignments tab - showing who assigned them (useful if you have multiple admins or trust admins that may also want to assign) - when they are due - and the progress.
Can anyone do training without being assigned it?
Yes! As always, Governors can choose to carry out any training on GovernorHub whether one of our e-learning courses or as part of any support service packages they may buy into.
Any training completed (or added by them) will be able to be viewed in the completed training tab in the training record area as before.
Do note - should you assign a course to a governor that has completed it already - you will be given the option to continue or to skip this assignment for that person during the assignment process.
SCENARIO:
You have assigned the Safeguarding for Governance course to anyone that started their term within the last year. One governor is flagged up as having completed in September 2025. You are aware that particular course was updated in October 2025 to take into consideration the latest Ofsted guidance ... so you decide to continue - ask them to pay specific attention to the new bit and re-do the assessment to show compliance.
